Lesdrevmash 2018: cooperation between Russia and China is growing
The round table discussions on Russia-China: Cooperation in the Timber Industry was held within the Lesdrevmash 2018 international exhibition, which is now running at Expocentre Fairgrounds.
According to Vice President of the Union of Timber Manufactures and Exporters of Russia Andrey Frolov, the Russian export of wood and paper based products to China amounted to 8.2 billion USD in 2017. This year, taking into account the first nine months, it is expected to increase up to 11 billion USD. The expert also noted that over the last four years the share of raw wood import from Russia to China decreased from 37% to 28%.
According to Deputy Chairman of the China National Forest Products Industry Association Feng Jiaping, products from Russia made up 60% of the total import volume of timber products in China in 2017. Russia is one of the top three importers, together with Finland and Japan, of wood to China. China gives a great importance to cooperation with Russia in the timber industry.
All participants stressed the importance of deepening of cooperation in all possible fields including creation of joint ventures and investment projects.
